Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Tom Ford Absent From New York Fashion Week Schedule

The CFDA‘s New York Fashion Week schedule is one of America’s foremost fashion events, showcasing a wide array of domestic and international talent alike, anchored by some of the country’s biggest names. Curiously, three of those household names appear to be absent from this year’s festivities: Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger and Tom Ford.

It’s less surprising to not see Ford on the list than the other two companies; he announced plans to show in Los Angeles earlier this month. “In my role as chairman of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, my main intent and priority is to globalize and bring attention to American fashion,” Ford explained to WWD. “There is truly no bigger or more prominent stage in the world at any given time than Los Angeles during the Academy Awards.”

Still, Ford’s absence is all the more noticeable given the disappearance of Lauren and Hilfiger, two other tentpole NYFW designers. A Ralph Lauren spokesperson told Fashion Network that the label is “still reflecting on a possible event” for New York, leaving the door open for an event. Meanwhile, Hilfiger is expected to announce a new host city for his ongoing TommyNow program, a seasonal See Now Buy Now runway presentation that recently partnered with Zendaya for a show at Harlem’s Apollo Theatre.

There’s plenty of heavy hitters still on the CFDA’s schedule, of course, like Helmut Lang, Jeremy Scott, The Row, Eckhaus Latta and Marc Jacobs. International brands will also be reappearing at the event, including Palm Angels and Sies Marjan. However, one of the city’s biggest emerging labels, Pyer Moss, will be absent for the February shows, hosting a showroom in Paris during France’s Fashion Week.

This past month, a major French luxury brand took a major American city when Kim Jones and Shawn Stussy delivered Dior’s Pre-Fall 2020 runway presentation in Miami.
